I love being able to watch students grow personally, academically, and physically as they learn to embrace their unique resiliency and strengths. When I work with students, I ALWAYS FOCUS ON SOLUTIONS, PROVIDE MOTIVATION, and EMBRACE STUDENTS' STRENGTHS. As and ADVOCATE, MOTIVATOR, LEADER, and COLLABORATOR, I want to help students set and accomplish their own personal, academic, and physical goals in any way I can.
As a Zone Facilitator at Boston Latin Academy, I have the opportunity to work with driven middle school and high school students in study halls and after school programming. I establish meaningful relationships with students by being a CONSISTENT AND SUPPORTIVE ADULT ADVOCATE. I work with students individually and in small groups on GOAL SETTING, ACADEMIC MENTORING, and CAREER AND COLLEGE PLANNING. I CONSULT TEACHERS to discuss student goals as well.
As an adjustment counselor intern at the GOALS program, I built positive relationships with my individual case load of 5 students through MOTIVATIONAL THERAPY and SOLUTION FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY. As I TUTORED students in math and implemented the FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM individually and in groups (see details below on the group intervention page), students opened up to me about their relationships, home life, and academic struggles. The students I worked with at GOALS had Individual Education Plans which often included goals for the students behavioral and academic challenges. I had the opportunity to sit in on IEP MEETINGS and other collaborations between the school, social worker, family, student, and other advocates as they created new goals for the student.
As an adjustment counselor intern at RALLY in the Dearborn Middle School, I met with 6 students individually to discuss and set goals around assertiveness, belonging, reflection, and active engagement. With each of these students, I conducted INTAKE ASSESSMENTS, CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS, and CLASSROOM INTERVENTIONS. I attended STUDENT SUPPORT MEETINGS and made PHONE CALLS TO FAMILY to discuss challenges and successes. I got to know these students by playing games, throwing around a basketball, and going on walks around the school. Some of these students also attended group counseling sessions. I used MEDIATIONS with a small group of girls and to help a student and her after school program director maintain their relationship.
